to enhance the quality of life for senior citizens
with mental retardation in nursing homes, OBRA
(Omnibus Reconciliation Act of 1987) staff visit
and assist residents weekly. They also plan
outings to senior citizen centers, restaurants,
theaters, shopping malls, hair salons and other
places. This new Catch service has enabled some
residents to be discharged from nursing homes
and to live in the community. Nursing home care
is replaced by a cooperative system of community-based
support services and city MH/MR services. |
